This generation is the so called “Era of Glamour”. Most women changed their perception about beauty and are very much willing to undergo drastic body changes such as enhancing the appearance of their breasts. For those who are not contented with the shape, size and their overall breast contour, a breast augmentation can help them achieve their desired breast profile.
A breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that makes use of implants to enlarge the size of the breasts or to reconstruct it to restore lost breast volume. It is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgical procedures. There are two primary types of breast implants: silicone and saline implants. Saline implants contain a sterile saline liquid while silicone implants are filled with a viscous gel. Variations in the procedure include the type of incision, implant material, and placement of the implant.

Your breast implants may be placed in one of the following locations:

Transaxillary – this incision is placed in the armpit.
Transumbilical (TUBA) – this incision is created in the navel but is not commonly performed.
The types of incision will be discussed to you during the initial consultation. The location of the incision will depend on your preferences and the amount of breast tissue you have.
The patient is given topical anesthesia and general anesthesia to minimize discomforts. After inducing sleep, an incision will be created for the implants to be inserted. The surgeon will insert and verify the placements of the implants. During this time, minor modifications can still be made. After placement is verified, the incisions will now be closed using absorbable sutures. Sterile dressings will be applied to cover the wound. You will be brought to the recovery room to rest and be observed for the first 24 to 48 hours. It is best to arrange with your family or friend for someone to watch over you and drive you home.
